A2 Coursework: Mythology and Legend

A2 Coursework

(In which I was allowed to play with my favourite myths and legends!)

The Phoenix

Experimented with burning feathers and doing screen prints based upon the photos I captured

Worked with some basic inclusion in glass pieces - the glass piece on the left had a feather between two sheets of glass and formed a feather-shaped air bubble, something I hadn't expected but really liked!

One of my bigger coursework pieces was a Phoenix-inspired corset. 100s of feathers to dye and sew onto the back pieces of the corset!!
Kindly modelled by my wonderful friend Alice (who was my muse through most of A-Levels).

Apollo and Daphne

Icarus

Last coursework project of A2 year was articulated wings, inspired by Icarus. I spent an exceptionally long time making the wooden frame perfect, before melting was all over them and setting them on fire to recreate Icarus' fall...

After the fall of Icarus - aka my wings post-destruction and fire.

A2 Final Exam Project: Growth and Evolution

Final A2 Exam Project: Growth and Evolution

(In which I focused on the growth and evolution of mental illness - particularly depression - and the idea of it being "all in your head")

(Above are mixed media from a selection of; tissue paper, ink, acrylic paint, watercolour and biro)

(above is a glass piece formed by melting a sheet of glass over a plaster mould I had carved - I then wrote various quotes related to depression over the glass)

(above pieces formed by biro and ink)

Final A2 Piece:

My final pieces were etchings that were embellished using ink, watercolour and biro - the "growth" increasing throughout each piece to represent the growth of mental illness taking over.

Seven Deadly Sins Masks

Experimenting for Final Major Project I tried making eye masks. Unfortunately don't particularly like them on the face because the material isn't very sleek. Perhaps I'll have more time in another project to explore masks though because I really enjoy the concept.
